Need for Training

Grant administrators, Finance Managers, Project accountants and other staff involved in grant management need to demonstrate knowledge, skills and competencies that define quality grant implementation to guarantee quality program delivery, value for money to project funders and users. Moreover, even experienced finance managers have to be realistic to the fact that institutions and traditions can be lost thus be open to the possibility that we can do more than we are doing now.


Thus, this training seeks to deepen understanding of grant management issues including improving the processes of grant reporting. In addition, finance staff will interrogate how colleagues from other organizations respond to common challenges in grant management such as late disbursement of grants, slow absorption of funds, reporting issues which result in disallowed costs, internal delays, poor planning and budgeting and lack of clear budget monitoring processes and tools among others.

  • Ensure grant management complies  with the organization policies and procedures and donor regulations
  • Provide leadership-including supervision, training and technical support especially among junior and new finance/logistics/administrative staff on internal procedures and donor grant requirements
  • Be able to set up/strengthen finance and supporting function policies, systems and procedures of the organization
  • Ensure that the day-to-day accounting and financial management functions in field offices are performed in accordance with organization and donor financial management procedures and policy
  • Ensure reporting compliance to donor requirements including adherence to grant report formats and deadlines
  • Provide leadership in continuous review of internal policies and processes to conform to best practices, applicable labor laws, donor policies and organizational policies
  • Supervise and Analyze procurement processes and transactions for sufficient documentation, accuracy of amounts and control over payments
  • Consistently monitor financial position of projects through maintenance of accurate financial records
  • Work with program heads to provide program financial forecasts for smooth program implementation and flow of activities
  • Increase current reporting systems for project staff to write more visual, usable and actionable reports
