The location of the General Rural Hospital of Gambo helps to reduce this centralization in a certain way, which allows saving a greater number of lives in rural areas. A large part of the population in these areas can not afford to travel to large cities due to lack of resources and, in addition, the poor state of the roads prevents health care from arriving on time.
On the other hand, rural hospitals such as Gambo are key to the growth and economic-social development of the population. An improvement in the quality of life of the inhabitants of this medium would contribute to increase aspects such as labor productivity and access to education.
The greater education in health is another one of the positive consequences of the work of the hospital, since, thanks to the activities of prevention that are carried out, the population acquires majors abilities to improve the nutrition, hygiene, the antenatal cares, in summary your quality of life.
It should also be noted that the hospital offers jobs to the local population – most of the center’s staff has been born in this area – which contributes to an increase in the opportunities of this group and an improvement in their quality of life. The hospital not only offers health coverage, but also job opportunities for the inhabitants of the area.
At present, the General Rural Hospital of Gambo is the only health center in operation in the district of Kore and serves an average of 250 patients per day, with an income rate of 300 patients per month and with a capacity of 150 beds. In addition, the Gambo leprosarium remains the only center in the district for the diagnosis, cure and physical rehabilitation of leprosy.
For this reason, it is of vital importance to continue developing and increasing the activity carried out by the center, with the main objective of offering coverage to displaced people from urban areas.
