Every guest or family of guests gets their own ‘butler’ for the duration of their stay — having one individual member of staff as the primary point of contact ensures service has a human, personal touch. The butlers here also work to ensure that every person goes home with unforgettable memories — they might arrange a picnic breakfast on the beach or a private dinner in the hotel’s wine cellar, for example.
On a wider level, I observed no weak links in the service: from the exuberant diving instructor to the meticulous general manager Alfredo, the flawless operation here is a lesson in how to run a world-class boutique five-star resort. Facilities include two swimming pools, a spa, horse riding on the beach, ocean safaris, scuba diving (it has a fully-certified PADI diving school) and snorkelling.
The suites are located in individual stilted timber lofts that seem to float on a hill that gently undulates into the beach. Each room has an expansive deck and private pool. Some have direct private access to the beach. Their sharp, purist interiors make extensive use of white leather, restful cobalt fabrics and curvaceous glass. Charismatic touches include hanging door beads fashioned from shells, and light installations made of thousands of ‘shark teeth’ carved from wood.
Bathrooms are sexed up with outdoor showers and roll-top baths. Satellite televisions, extensive tea and coffee tray, and a free minibar come as standard.
